200 Club Draw – Afternoon Tea

200 CLUB SOCIAL

Cream Tea will be served this Sunday afternoon - Sunday 30^th May - from 3.30pm until 5.30pm. Sandwiches, scones with cream and jam as well as cakes will be served along with lashings of hot, fresh tea. Tea will cost £3 and you can sign up in the narthex and simply come along any time during that couple of hours. The three May ‘big’ prizes (first prize £200) will be drawn during the afternoon… and it could be your number! Do come along if you can. The 200 Club is a great way of raising a little money to boost our parish funds as well as offering a chance to reap a little fruit from your subscription. High Sheriff’s Gift

Dr Tim Chambers, the out-going High Sheriff of the City and County of Bristol, came to St Bernadette’s for the 10.30am Mass on Easter Sunday morning. At the end of the Mass, Tim came to the lectern to thank the Parish of St Bernadette’s for ‘lending’ Fr Christopher to him for his year as High Sheriff.

Fr Christopher acted as Tim’s chaplain for the year but brought the parish along with him so that the parish was supporting Tim in his role with their prayers and their encouragement.

Tim was at St Bernadette’s from time to time throughout the year and stayed behind after Mass on each occassion to talk to the folk in the hall. As a thank you gift, Tim presented the Parish with a Bristol Blue plate engraved with the words “Parish of the High Sheriff 2009-2010″ and presented Fr Christopher with a similar plate engraved “Chaplain to the High Sheriff 2009-2010“.

As a parish we were priviledged to play an active role in supporting someone of ‘royal appointment’ and someone who played such a prominent role in working to support the whole our city and our county.

Fish and Chip Quiz Night

Saturday 5th December 2009

St Bernadette’s is hosting a Quiz Night with a Fish & Chip Supper on Saturday, 5th December beginning at 7.30pm. This is a parish social event and we hope to raise a little money for our Outreach Projects. Our resident quiz master, Gordon Hodgson, will be hosting the quiz with those tough questions to get those little grey cells working overtime.

The evening is open to all the family. Tickets for adults cost £10 (which will include drinks). Our social events are great fun and a wonderful way of bringing people together whilst reaching out to those less fortunate than ourselves. If you want a place or two for the evening, you can always contact the presbytery asking for your names to be added to the ‘guest list’. We look forward to seeing you there!

Social Life at St Bernadettes

All too often, we smile or acknowledge someone across the Church at weekends but we don’t know their name or anything about them. We can describe where they sit for mass, how many family members there might be and what they were wearing; We might even make a sign of peace then when we see them in Tesco we look straight past them or just say a nervous Hello.

A few years ago we decided to try and address this by having a few more social events so that we have time to get to know one another and have fun along the way. We have had several very successful events such as Ceilidhs ( a kind of Barn dance), quiz nights, italian evenings, Malaysian evenings, barbecues and dinner dances. Some events are held in the Church hall, others at outside venues.

Everyone is always welcome to come and join in the fun, make new friends and really feel part of the parish. We are always open to suggestions for events and both for throwing ideas in and organising something. We are all looking forward to Uncle Gordon’s excellent quiz night on 5th December- do come along for a Mr Crispy supper to feed your brain while you work out the answers!
