A SPECIAL WELCOME TO OUR RECEPTION CHILDREN FROM ST.BERNADETTE’S PRIMARY AND TO THEIR PARENTS: It’s really good to have you with us!

ST BERNADETTE’S SECONDARY SCHOOL: We are delighted that the Assistant Headteacher of St Bernadette’s, Mrs Aleisha Woodley who will be speaking briefly after 5.45pm Mass on Saturday and  Mrs Basia McLoughlin, Headteacher, who will be speaking briefly after the 10.30am Mass on Sunday. Let’s keep both of our schools in our prayers, so that we allow this important link between parish and school to grow and flourish.

SECOND COLLECTIONS:

Today: CAFOD Harvest Fast Day;

Sunday 11th October: APF re World Mission Sunday

DO YOU WANT TO HELP WITH THE MUSIC FOR SUNDAY MORNING MASS?     A small group meets on Fridays at 7.15pm (for an upto an hour) in the church, to run through the music for mass. Please come and join us! It is informal, there are no auditions, and no special musical skills, such as being able to read music, are required (although if you have them we will endeavour to put them to good use!) You will not be committing yourself to attending every week, although the more often you can come the better we will like it. It is also an opportunity for suggestions and constructive criticism.

SATURDAY EVENING MASS MUSIC: Do you have any musical skill which you would like to put to use to help our worship at Saturday evening Mass? Please speak to Fr Matt.

DATE FOR THE DIARY: Fr Matt will be inducted as Parish Priest of St.Bernadette’s at a Special Mass with the local Dean and other priests on Friday 27th November at 7pm.

NEXT SUNDAY: We welcome Brother Eddie, who will make an appeal for APF / Missio.

ADORATION, ROSARY, EVENING PRAYER & BENEDICTION: Next Sunday, 11th October from 4pm to 5pm.

NOVEMBER – MONTH OF THE HOLY SOULS: Alist will appear on the noticeboard next weekend, offering the opportunity for each Mass celebrated by Fr Matt during the month of November to be offered for the repose of the soul of a loved one. During these Masses (which will not all be celebrated in the parish, as Fr Matt is away at conference in the first week of November, and not always here every day), the individual intention will be brought to the Lord, as will all the names in the Book of Remembrance. The Book of Remembrance will be made available in the next couple of weeks.

O LORD, HEAR MY PRAYER: A prayer board will be put up by the statue of St.Joseph this week. This will give us the opportunity to write and ‘pin-up’ any particular intentions we might have. These intentions will always be remembered during our weekday Masses.

CHURCH CLEANING: All welcome for cleaning after Mass on Wednesday.

YOUTH GROUP:

Dear 11-18 YEAR OLDS (BERNADETTE’S YOUTH),

The parish would like to invite you to come along to and be trailblazers by starting a new youth group. On Friday 9th October, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, we will meet in the church hall and find out what this group might look like. It all depends on you. You are the pioneers – come and shape the future of youth ministry in the parish! To whet your appetite, the following will be happening on Friday 9th:

  • Visit from St Michael’s Youth Group, Shepton Mallet to tell us about what they get up to in their group
  • Inspiring short talk from Kate Edwards, our new Clifton Diocese Youth Worker, fresh from the USA!
  • Food and drink aplenty

BERNADETTE’S YOUTH – FAITH, FUN, FRIENDSHIP

THANK YOU: To all who helped to make Friday’s CAFOD Fast Day soup lunch a success!

WEEKLY COLLECTION: Please ‘Gift Aid’ wherever possible – it make a really big difference.

Standing Orders are a great way to give to the parish. They help you to plan your giving prayerfully and wisely. They also help the parish to plan effectively, which is a necessity as we explore the way forward with the building project.

For details on how to set up a standing order, whizz an email to the office:
