SOUP LUNCH: A simple soup lunch with cheese and fruit in aid of CAFOD Harvest Fast Day (see Second Collection details below) will be held on Friday 2nd October starting at 12 noon in the church hall. Everyone welcome.

HARVEST GIFTS FOR THE HOMELESS: The Julian Trust welcomes gifts of tinned meat, tinned vegetables and tinned fruit. These can be placed in the box in the Lady Chapel. See notice board for more details.

MASS FOR RECEPTION CHILDREN: Next Sunday 4th October, we welcome children and parents from the Reception Class of St Bernadette’s Primary School. It would be good to reserve the front pews of the church for them as a sign of welcome. After Mass it would be lovely to offer squash and biscuits in the hall and for as many as possible to come along. Let’s give a big welcome.

ST BERNADETTE’S SECONDARY SCHOOL: We are delighted that the Headteacher of St Bernadette’s, Mrs Basia McLoughlin, will be speaking briefly after weekend masses of 3rd/4th October. Both parish and school want to forge closer links, which is a real blessing.

Today:   Annual Cathedral Collection – still much funding required for the building work for the Mother Church of the diocese. Envelopes distributed this week. Letter on the noticeboard.

May they rest in peace

The parish would like to invite you to come along to and be trailblazers by starting a new youth group. On Friday 9th October, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, we will meet in the church hall and find out what this group might look like. It all depends on you. You are the pioneers – come and shape the future of youth ministry in the parish! To whet your appetite, the following will be happening on Friday 9th:

  • Visit from St Michael’s Youth Group, Shepton Mallet to tell us about what they get up to in their group
  • Inspiring short talk from Kate Edwards, our new Clifton Diocese Youth Worker, fresh from the USA!
  • Food and drink aplenty

BE BRAVE – TAKE A LEAP OF FAITH

BERNADETTE’S YOUTH – FAITH, FUN, FRIENDSHIP

DOOR OF GRACE: A Youth Convention for 16 – 28 year olds will be taking place in the church and the hall on Saturday 17th October. Run by Sehion UK Ministries, there will be prayer and praise sessions, Holy Mass and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

YEAR OF MERCY PARISH PILGIMAGE:  An important aspect of the Year of Mercy is the invitation by Pope Francis to go on pilgrimage. Would it not be a great idea to have two parish pilgrimages in 2016, one to Rome & Assisi (Possibly in September / October ) and one to a domestic destination ( Walsingham or Lindisfarne for example ) ? To guage interest in participation in a 6 day pilgrimage to Rome & Assisi (4 days & 2 days respectiveley), costing arounf £750 (based on 2 sharing) please put your name on the list on the noticeboard. We’re a little slow off the mark on this one as a parish so we would need to decide very quickly. A definitive date can be provided once we have a sense of who might want to come.
