Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday

24 March 2013 – Palm Sunday

HOLY WEEK: We are invited to embark upon a journey that lies at the very heart of our Christian faith… and one that is most crucial. We accompany Christ to his cross beginning with today’s triumphant entrance into Jerusalem. This week is essentially one of prayer, drawing us ever deeper into the mystery of God’s unconditional love for us. The sheer drama this week is ‘played out’ within the context of our own community. Do come and take part in as much of the Liturgies of Holy Week as you can.

EASTER FLOWERS: Thank you for your kindness shown in last weekend’s retiring collection. You raised £180 for our flower ladies and the wonderful work they do in decorating our church across the Easter Season.

FIRST COMMUNION: We take a break from preparation until after Easter (13 April at 8.45am). Parents meet on Tuesday 9 April at 7pm for their fourth session in the Hall. Please make a note in your diaries.

THIS IS OUR FAITH: We continue our journey through the Creed this coming Tuesday, 23 April – again at 7.30pm – looking at Christ coming to judge the living and the dead. Jane Critten will be leading this session for us. Refreshments from 7pm.

TAIZE PRAYER IN HOLY WEEK: In preparation for the three Great Days of Holy Week, there will be chance to gather in simple prayer and attentiveness to the scriptures around the music and chant of Taize. Wednesday 27 March at 7pm.

MISSIO APF: A final figure for 2012 has been sent in to reflect our parish’s contribution to the work of the missions. £2050 was collected over 2012 – a tremendous. Many thanks to all who support the work of the APF.

OFFERTORY ENVELOPES: New sets are available; please make sure you collect yours. If you are not on the Gift Aid scheme and are a UK tax payer, please have a word with Dave Lavelle before you leave Mass this weekend.

LENTEN SOUP: Our second soup lunch will take place this Sunday lunchtime – Sunday 24 March at 12noon. All are most welcome. The monies raised from this soup lunch go in support of the Syria Crisis Appeal.

CAFOD BOXES: The collection take during the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Thursday is our gift to the poor – your CAFOD boxes and your Lenten Alms can be placed in that collection.

PARISH MEETING: In the light of the recent buildings and utilities survey, FrC would like to hold an evening to which all our parish community are invited. We can explore the findings of the reports as well as have a glance at our financial situation, too. We’ll meet on Tuesday 30 April at 7pm in our hall. Please do come along.

FORUM GROUP meets on Wednesday 10 April at 7.45pm in the presbytery.

ACT JUSTLY, LOVE TENDERLY, WALK HUMBLY WITH YOUR GOD: The department of Adult Education is hosting a day at St Brendan’s on Saturday 20 April from 10am looking at the Church’s social teaching and the Church’s sexual teaching as explored in JPII’s Theology of the Body. Two fantastic speakers are facilitating the day – well worth going along to… and it’s free. See poster on the board in the narthex.

ANDREW MORGANS RIP: We keep Andrew and his family in our prayers at this time. Andrew’s funeral takes place here at St Bernadette’s on Thursday 4 April at 10am. May he rest in peace.

BLESSING OF EASTER FOODS: The traditional Polish blessing of foods, Święconka, takes place on Holy Saturday at 11am. All are most welcome.

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION: Look at the Mass schedule to see confessions are available Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.

BIG CLEAN: If you can help get the Church ready for the celebrations of Holy Week, please turn up around 9.45am, armed with a brush, a hoover, or a duster… and refreshments will be provided for you.

EASTER SUNDAY MASSES: Do make a note that there is NO 5.45pm Mass next Saturday. The Vigil takes place at 8pm. There are two Masses on Easter Sunday morning.

VESPERS for Palm Sunday this Sunday afternoon at 4pm. Also Vespers for Easter next Sunday at 4pm.

CAKES AND PRESERVE STALL FOR PARISH OUTREACH: Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 April in the Narthex after Mass. Cakes wanted. Would you consider baking a cake for the stall? For more info contact 01275 832794.
